About Us

Develop India Trust (DIT) was conceptualised in 1999 by two pioneers to offer a platform to cater to the rehabilitation and empowerment needs of the rural & marginalised population of initially of Dooars region (North Bengal) with a special focus on disability.  We are an organisation with a deep base in the community.

In a little over a two decades, Develop India Trust, through its diverse projects on disability, dairy development, literacy and health has managed to create a niche for itself in the voluntary sector in North Bengal without any major funding from Government or from overseas. DIT has delivered effective results in bringing together the silenced voices of persons with disabilities to the forefront not only claiming their rights but also for bargaining and negotiating for the effective implementation of the rights available to them under the relevant laws.

Dooars Institute of the Disabled has been our first project that was initiated on 29 August 1999 as a School for the Hearing Impaired Children in a rented campus in Jaigaon with support of Local Gayatri Parivar, local Merchant Association & Lions Club.

Today DIT has its own campus called Vishwamata Sewashram with regular rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and a hostel for children with disabilities.

We aim at an equitable society for all where everyone - including those with disabilities and those who have been left behind in the race of development, have equitable opportunities for survival with dignity.
